The path starts in Redlands. But it doesn’t stay there.
Pathway is a community rooted in the beautiful gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe the gospel is genuinely good news and knowing Jesus produces genuine joy. Not manufactured, not performed. Just the natural result of knowing Him.
In this life, nobody should walk alone. No person is anonymous. No task is beneath anyone in leadership. The same people you see on stage are the ones who’ll stop and talk with you in the parking lot, check on you through the week, and show up when things get hard.
And this pathway leads outward. The gospel we walk in is meant to be carried through our neighborhoods, through the Inland Empire, into California, and toward the nations.
Whether you’ve been following Jesus for decades or you’re still deciding if any of this is true, you are welcome on this path. Walk with us.
Our Values
Who we are
Six convictions that shape how we teach, gather, and walk with each other.
We are anchored in the Word
We unapologetically love and trust the Bible because it is the way we know God and become like Jesus. All of it. From beginning to end, it points us to Jesus, our need for Him, and invites us to enjoy God through it.
There are no gospel-graduates
The gospel is not just the entryway to new life in Jesus, and it’s not just the ticket to heaven at the end of the path — it is the path. We never graduate from our need of believing it, so it is the center of all we teach.
We live in joyful and desperate dependence on God
In a world that preaches independence, we find freedom in our dependence on our Father. In our struggle for control, we loosen our grip by joyfully seeking Him in prayer. We really believe that if God doesn’t do it, it won’t do.
We seek to expand God’s kingdom, not build our own
We don’t compete with other churches; we celebrate what God is doing in them. We partner with others in our city, region, and world. This motivates us to plant new churches, send out our best, and believe going to the nations is not optional.
There is no surprise behind the curtain
We are the same in public as we are in private, because the gospel cures our need to perform. Genuine. Sincere. What you see is what is real. So we choose trust over suspicion, and we love each other enough to have the conversations needed.
We invest in raising up future leaders
We seek to reproduce and replace ourselves. We’re OK with things not being perfect because we love giving people an opportunity to grow. Egos aside — that is the way of Jesus. We plant for the future.
Our Mission & Vision
Why are we here?
Why we exist
To see all people enjoying God and reflecting His image in all places.
Our mission
Walking with Jesus and inviting others to join us along the way.
A disciple being discipled — and making disciples who make disciples.
The invitation
Walk with us.
What will our walk entail?
The path
Five markers of the path
01
The path begins in the gospel
From the very first step, we want you to encounter the beautiful gospel of Jesus Christ. The Bible then, as our anchor, shapes every step.
02
The path is marked by joy
We walk in the presence of God, and in His presence is fullness of joy.
03
The path changes you
The gospel promises that by walking this path we will become more like Jesus.
04
The path is walked together
Nobody anonymous, nobody alone, nobody performing.
05
The path leads beyond
The path doesn’t end in Redlands. It leads beyond ourselves through California and extends to the nations.
Pathway is
Pathway to Jesus
Pathway to Joy
Pathway to Change
Pathway to Family
Pathway to the nations

Our Heritage
Rooted in Redlands since 1950.
The name is newer than the church — but the path has always led the same direction.
It starts with 17 people. On January 22, seventeen people gather in a borrowed chapel and vote to begin Temple Baptist Church in Redlands.
A home on Cypress. The young church buys a three-acre orange grove on Cypress Avenue and builds its first sanctuary — the same ground Pathway still meets on today.
A church that plants churches. In its first decade, Temple sends out mission churches across the Inland Empire. The outward path was there from the start.
Built by hand. The men of the church give their Saturdays to raise a new worship center; the women feed the crews.
Reconciliation Sunday. After a painful split, two congregations reunite on one stage and forgive one another. Whole again.
A new name. To set itself apart and point to what it’s about, Temple Baptist becomes Pathway Church — and the steeple’s spire is replaced with a cross.
Through the Fire: a fire burned down the children’s ministry building, but the team rallied and kept ministry going without missing a week during the build.
Scattered, still the church. Through COVID, Pathway keeps meeting — driveways, screens, a parking lot — and still sends a family to the mission field.
A new chapter. Pastor Josh Howeth is called as Lead Pastor.
75 years. Same gospel, same path, still walking.
We didn’t always go by Pathway. For our first 53 years we were Temple Baptist Church. But the road we’ve been on never changed — so in 2003 we took a name that says where it leads.
